Neil Amundson passed February 17 at the age of 95. He obtained his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota under the direction of Hugh Turrittin. During the 1940s and 50s Amundson pioneered the use of mathematical and computer modeling for chemical engineering and was the Chemical Engineering department head from 1949 to 1974. He served as interim Head of the Department of Mathematics in 1964 at the time the two previous and separate departments (CLA and IT) were merged.
