Modeling Contest in Mathematics
A five days long (and very fun!) international contest for undergraduates during which the participating teams create a mathematical model. It is organised by COMAP, and usually happens at the beginning of February. This year, the SIAM Chapter is organizing the local groups. Last year, the IMA organized the local groups. How to prepare?
- One of the first place to look at for practise is the Math Models website. It has a big database of modeling problems.
- In 2010-2011, the IMA organised the local teams. Here are the slides for the introductory meeting.
- Another place to learn the basics of modeling is the book by Edward A. Bender: An Introduction to Mathematical Modeling.
