Seminars for the week of May 4, 2009

Colloquium

Thursday, 3:20, in VinH 16

Professor Xinyi Yuan
of Clay Research Fellow/IAS
will speak on
"Gross-Zagier formula and triple product formula"

The famous BSD conjecture asserts that the vanishing order of the L- function of an elliptic curve defined over a number field is equal to the rank of its Mordell-Weil group. In the case that the vanishing order equals zero or one, the conjecture is solved by the landmark formula of Gross-Zagier and the Euler system argument of Kolyvagin. Toward high dimensions, we show a formula for the central derivative of the triple product L-function conjectured by Gross-Kudla. Both formulas are examples of the Gross-Prasad conjecture in the odd case (root number $=-1$). It is a joint work with Shou- wu Zhang and Wei Zhang.
