Seminars for the week of March 2, 2009

Colloquium

Thursday, 3:20, in VinH 16

Professor Werner Mueller
of Ordway Visitor/University of Bonn
will speak on
"The Selberg trace formula and dynamical zeta functions"

We consider a compact locally symmetric space $\Gamma\backslash G/K$ and an arbitrary,in particular non-unitary, finite-dimensional representation of $\Gamma$. For this set up we establish a twisted version of the Selberg trace formula. In the rank one case we use this trace formula to prove that the twisted Selberg -- and Ruelle zeta functions admit meromorphic extensions to the whole complex plane and satisfy functional equations. Then, we study the behavior of the Ruelle zeta function at zero and its relation to the Ray- Singer analytic torsion. This has applications to the cohomology of arithmetic hyperbolic 3-manifolds.
