Professor Ezra Miller
will speak on
"Transversality in homogeneous spaces"

Complex submanifolds of homogeneous spaces for complex Lie groups can be moved into general position with respect to one another. This classical fact, which stems from transitivity of the group action, results in a certain type of positivity for the cohomology rings of homogeneous spaces. The talk will survey the background and recent developments regarding transversality and the consequent positivity in various kinds of cohomology rings of homogeneous spaces.
