Seminars for the week of October 9, 2006
Colloquium
Thursday, 3:30, in VinH 16Professor Wojciech Chacholski
of KTH Stockholm
will speak on
"How to quantify complexity of fibrations of topological spaces" In this talk, I will illustrate how to use modern homotopy theory
to quantify complexity of fibrations of topological spaces. To quantify
something means to compare it with something else which is presumed to be more
fundamental. In our case we take amalgamated sums as such fundamental
operations. I will illustrate in these terms the nilpotance theorem of
Devinatz, Hopkins and Smith
