A personal anecdote:
As an undergraduate, I was a DJ on my college's radio station, WRMC. We focused almost exclusively on independent music,
and I personally tried to play as much new music as possible. Despite not knowing anything about the genre and despite disliking what I heard,
I almost always would try out bands that were classified as "math rock." Not out of a desire to broaden my experience (or those of my listeners);
I just felt that anything with the word "math" in the title had to be good.
I think that explains something about me.
