Mathematics Tutoring Services: Fall 2008
8/25/08
Each regular semester a variety of Tutorial Options is offered to students - especially to those
in Lower Division Mathematics Courses (1xxx, 2xxx level). The Tutorial Options for the current semester
are noted below in two categories: Free Tutors and Tutors for Hire.
In addition to the Tutoring Options offered below through IT and our Undergraduate Office,
an expanded SMART Learning Commons smart.umn.edu offers both workshop
and tutorial options for some lower division Mathematics courses. Locations may be limitted during Summer Session.
Free Tutors
LindH 150
Beginning Monday, September 8th (start of 2nd week of classes), a general tutoring room will be available
for students registered for 1-3xxx level math classes at 150 LindH. Upper Division IT Undergraduate students will tutor
there Monday through Friday from 8:00am -4:30pm., running through the last day of Fall semester
classes (Dec. 10th). Undergraduate tutors will also be available during the evening 6:30-9:30 p.m.
on Sundays-Thursdays at selected dormitories. The schedule of which dorms will have
evening tutoring on which days of the week will also appear on the 150 LindH Tutorial schedule
when it becomes available.
LindH 150 (Fall & Spring only)
By the third week of the semester (usually), Math Graduate students are available at this location
during some hours Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Both IT Undergraduate and Math Grad tutor
services use a 'take a number' system.
LindH 150 (Fall & Spring only; table behind staircase; specifically for Math 2243 and 2263)
This area is for tutoring of students currently enrolled in Math 2243 and 2263. When no tutor is available, students
can also go to the main part of LindH 150. A link will appear here after that schedule has been completed.
Tutors for Hire
Each semester we compile a list of graduate students who can be hired by other students for tutoring in Mathematics.
It contains the phone number and email address for each graduate student willing to do private tutoring for the current term.
All arrangements are made between the student client and the graduate student tutor.
This Private Tutor List is usually available during the third week of classes and can be obtained in person from the Undergraduate Office
(Vincent Hall 115) or by email request for this list sent to: ugrad@math.umn.edu.
