Career Development

Career Development & Advancement Services

Students receive a full set of workshops covering many helpful job and internship search strategies and tactics. In addition we offer customized, on-going one-on-one career coaching for all MCFAM students. We sponsor a variety of career fairs, panel discussions with industry leaders, and Networking Receptions where you can begin building your network of contacts and peers in the quantitative financial and actuarial industry. We get to know you over the course of your studies. We stay with you until you find the internships and jobs you are looking for. After you graduate we include you in our growing network of alumni who stay engaged in our events and coursework.

Workshops

MCFAM does a 7 week workshop every Fall Semester so you are prepared for the employer recruiting season which kicks off earlier every fall. Whether you are seeking an internship a full time or part time job or an actuarial or financial mathematics project, you will learn critical techniques to help you:

Customized, One-on-One Career Coaching

Once students join our program they get access to our expert career development and advancement coaching. You work with the same individual throughout your program. Our coach gets to know you and helps you position yourself in the best possible way for your unique background and skills. Over the course of your two year or 4 year program, you get enough career development support so that by the time you graduate you will either have a job or be fully immersed in the process of finding one.

Career Fairs, Professional Networking Events

Because you are in a MCFAM program you will be able to attend all the special Career Events sponsored by MCFAM. We have an ever growing network of professionals including actuaries in all sectors of the industry, senior, middle and entry level financial management at insurance firms, banks, hedge funds, and capital management firms, treasury departments of major banks and Fortune 500 firms, data mining and financial consulting firms.

Mentorship Possibilities between Alumni and Current Students

Once students graduate they stay involved at recruiting events, as guest speakers and sometimes as instructors in our courses. We work to keep a connection going between our current students and alumni so they become mentors to students who are currently going through the program. Actuarial Students and Master of Financial Mathematics Students (MFM) can join their respective sub groups within our MCFAM Linked In Group. These sub-groups are restricted to current students, alumni, faculty and advisors involved in the programs.
