The Quasicontinuum Method seeks to dfficiently approximate the solution to high-dimensional atomistic problems. The goal is to be able to model materials at small scales where it is necessary to view them as a collection of atoms (nonlinear system of equations), rather than as a continuum (nonlinear PDE). I will overview the method in the 1D static case and show refinement effects in a simple model for defect motion.
