Graduate Math Minors

If you have already been admitted to another graduate program at the University of Minnesota, you may be interested in a Minor in Mathematics.

At the Master's level, two 5xxx-level or 8xxx-level mathematics courses (with a grade of "B" or better) usually fulfill the requirement. (A "B-" is too low to count.)

At the Ph.D. level, four 5xxx-level or 8xxx-level mathematics courses (with a grade of "B" or better) usually fulfills the requirement. (A "B-" is too low to count.)

In both cases, the DGS in Mathematics must explicitly approve a proposed degree program form for minors in Mathematics.

We recommend that you tell the Mathematics DGS, in advance, which mathematics courses you intend to take, and get those courses approved. This can be done by email, and we recommend that you save the approval message.
