Course Description: Math 2263, Multivariable Calculus and Vector Analysis

Overview: Multivariable calculus: Curves in space, arc length and curvature, velocity and acceleration. Limits and continuity, partial differentiation, local extrema, exact differentials, chain rule, directional derivative and gradient, Lagrange multipliers, 2^nd derivative test. Double integration, volume and other applications, polar coordinates, triple integration, cylindrical and spherical coordinates. Vector analysis: Vector fields, line integrals, path independence, Green's Theorem, surface integrals, Theorems of Gauss and Stokes.
4 credits. 3 lectures, 2 recitations per week.

Prerequisite: C- in Math 1272.

Audience: Part or the standard 2^nd year calculus course for students outside of IT.
